Petition UK govt. Gender neutral provision of facilities for battered persons.
Posted by Michael Reed under gender , men's rights , on the web , other sitesThis might be of interest to people in the UK:
As most of you will know, the government website sports an official petition system. Using this system, members of the public can set up web-based petitions which, apparently, the goverment will monitor.
I spotted a good one today, on the subject of extending provisions of shelter facilties to include all victims of domestic abuse. Currently, there exists almost no assistance for men who find themselves in this position.
Click on this link to read more about the petition. Consider signing up if you are a UK citizen and agree with what is being proposed. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/DVJUSTICE/
About half the people reading that statement might be left scratching their heads, wondering why this is significant. In a nutshell, the police and government statistics show that the problem of, so called, “battered husbands” is extremely significant. Some studies estimate that 17% of all victims of domestic violence are male. For some more background on some these issues, I invite you to check out this blog posting on another male rights blog:
As ever, my advice it to read up about the subject, with an open mind, and come to your own conclusions.

Hi. I read the report reply to the petition, DVJUSTICE!!? Angry would be an under estimate of how i felt when reading it. It plays down the seriousness of men as victims using data from crime statistics rather than using the research by their own departments ie, Home Office report on domestic violence report 191.
I am staggered at the futile view that they have about refuges that are availiable for men as if hostels alone can cater for them. Do these hostels cater for the kids too?? No mention of that just the common assumtion that they would be out of the situation on their own, the man always leaves and kids stay with mum. Are they not aware that men not only live in fear of their wives or partners but the children might be too and may also be at risk with their mum and dad knows it!! where are the shelters that take dads and the children? Not even considered!
It is a poor empty reply to the petition and sends the wrong usual bias message about mens needs as being less, as well as not as important to those of women. The real sadness is that it says nothing and will do nothing to bring to light the real issues about DV and in the end the children involved will suffer and do! Its a travesty of equality, reality and truth. Men dont have the voice women have on DV they also dont have the funding to air these serious issues as womens aid have the monopoly on DV. I do hope in time a fresh equal, non biased debate and acceptance of DV will occur in the near future as i fear for the next generation of young men and boys. They are our sons and future fathers who by all accounts so far mean little less than insignificant pawns in governmental gender politics, its all about keeping certain voters happy, they dont want to rock the boat ie risk losing votes? Read Harriet Harman about the role of Fathers in the family unit! She says it all! What a future for our sons to come.

I agree There is huge bias pro women and men are always shown in a bad light , domestic voilence, acholism, dangerous driving, etc where the majority are caring loving and productive members of society whom also happen to live shorter lives then women
